Allergy safety in education has changed.
Following the campaign known as Benedict’s Law, the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026 introduced new legal requirements for allergy safety in schools in England, supported by new statutory Allergy Safety in Schools guidance.
The changes place greater emphasis on a whole-school approach to allergy safety — including clear allergy policies, staff training and awareness, individual healthcare arrangements, communication and effective emergency procedures.
This means allergy safety cannot sit solely with the school nurse, first aider or one designated member of staff. Everyone who may be responsible for a child needs the knowledge and confidence to play their part.
Our Allergy Awareness & Anaphylaxis in Education Settings course has been developed to reflect these new 2026 requirements and current guidance, while also covering good practice relevant to early years and education settings across the UK.
Learners develop practical understanding of preventing accidental exposure, recognising allergic reactions and anaphylaxis, responding to emergencies, understanding Allergy Action Plans and prescribed emergency medication, and supporting children with allergies safely and inclusively.
For schools in England, this course provides current training designed to support staff awareness in line with the new allergy-safety requirements.
For settings elsewhere in the UK, the course clearly identifies where legislation and guidance differ, while providing practical allergy-safety principles that can be applied in everyday practice.

What You Will Learn
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the difference between food allergy, food intolerance and coeliac disease
- Identify common allergens and recognise hidden or unexpected sources of exposure
- Understand cross-contact and how everyday practices can reduce the risk
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction
- Recognise when a reaction may have progressed to anaphylaxis
- Understand why prompt adrenaline and emergency action are vital
- Know the immediate actions to take when anaphylaxis is suspected
- Understand the importance of Allergy Action Plans, Healthcare Plans and accessible emergency medication
- Manage allergy risks during meals, celebrations, activities, trips and outings
- Work effectively with parents and carers to understand a child’s individual needs
- Support children to understand and communicate their own allergy needs in an age-appropriate way
- Help children with allergies participate safely and inclusively
- Understand the key legislation, guidance and professional responsibilities relevant to allergy management in education settings
- Reflect on your own setting’s arrangements and identify where allergy safety could be strengthened
Designed for Anyone Supporting Children in Education
Suitable for anyone who may have responsibility for, supervise or come into contact with children and young people in schools, early years and education-related activities — including teaching and support staff, early years practitioners, catering teams, lunchtime supervisors, school transport staff and escorts, wraparound care staff, coaches, volunteers, supply staff and other support roles.
Interactive and Practical Learning
This course goes beyond simply reading information. Learners work through realistic scenarios, case studies, interactive activities and reflection tasks based on situations that could happen in everyday education and childcare environments.
From spotting potential allergy risks to deciding how to respond when a child develops symptoms, the activities help learners apply what they are learning to real situations and build confidence in both preventing allergic reactions and responding effectively in an emergency.
CPD Learning and Certification
This course provides approximately 2 hours of structured Continuing Professional Development (CPD) learning.
Upon successful completion of the course and final assessment, learners will receive a First Stop Safety Training Certificate of Completion, which can be downloaded immediately and used as evidence of workplace training and professional development.
