Course overview
This one-day qualification is designed for anyone who requires a sound understanding of health and safety practices within the workplace.
Suitable for employees across a wide range of sectors, the course covers workplace responsibilities, risk assessment, common hazards and controls, accident and near-miss procedures, and emergency arrangements.
The current Highfield qualification is a regulated Level 2 qualification, with 6 guided learning hours and a total qualification time of 10 hours.
What you will learn
By the end of the course, learners will understand:
- Health & safety responsibilities – the key duties of employers and employees and the benefits of good health and safety in the workplace.
- Hazards and risks – how to recognise common workplace hazards and understand the difference between hazards, risks, accidents and near misses.
- Risk assessment – the key steps involved in carrying out a workplace risk assessment.
- Controlling workplace risks – practical control measures that can help reduce accidents, injuries and work-related ill health.
- Common workplace hazards – including slips, trips and falls, manual handling, hazardous substances, electricity, noise, vehicles and fire.
- Accidents and near misses – how workplaces should respond to accidents, near misses and ill-health.
- Emergency procedures – the procedures that should be in place for workplace emergencies.
- Recording and reporting – why accidents, near misses and cases of ill-health need to be properly recorded.
Assessment and certification
Learners are assessed through a 20-question multiple-choice examination completed at the end of the course.
The assessment lasts 45 minutes, and learners must achieve a minimum score of 60% to pass.
Successful learners will receive the Highfield Level 2 Award in Health and Safety within the Workplace (RQF), a regulated qualification with qualification number 603/1289/0.
E-certification is included in the course price.
Course duration and timings
This is a one-day face-to-face course with a minimum of 6 guided learning hours. The total qualification time is 10 hours.
A typical training day runs from approximately 9:00am–4:00pm, including appropriate breaks and the end-of-course assessment.
Timings can be adjusted to suit your organisation, provided the required guided learning and assessment requirements are met.
