The MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) has approved EURneff, the UK’s first needle-free adrenaline nasal spray for treating anaphylaxis. This breakthrough will make it easier for people to act quickly in life-threatening allergic reactions, especially those hesitant to use traditional adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs) like EpiPens.
What Is EURneffy?
EURneffy is a 2 mg adrenaline nasal spray designed for adults and children weighing 30 kg (around 66 lb) or more. Instead of using a needle, the spray is inserted into a nostril and pressed, delivering a fast-acting dose absorbed through the nasal lining.
Key Benefits
- Needle-free administration – ideal for those with needle anxiety.
- Fast relief – raises blood pressure, eases breathing, reduces swelling.
- Portable & stable – compact and heat-stable up to 50 °C.
- Always carry two doses – just like with auto-injectors.
Why This Matters
Many allergy patients delay using auto-injectors because of fear or uncertainty. EURneffy offers a simpler, needle-free alternative that could encourage faster action when every second counts.
MHRA experts stress that AAIs remain essential and should still be carried until EURneffy® is widely available.
When Will EURneffy Be Available?
EURneffy was approved in July 2025, but it may take several months before it reaches pharmacies. A 1 mg version for children aged 4+ (15–30 kg) is expected in 2026.
What Should Patients Do?
- Consult your GP or allergy specialist to see if EURneffy is suitable.
- Continue carrying auto-injectors until supply is confirmed.
- Stay trained and confident, knowing how to respond saves lives.
