New! Food Safety in Catering – SCQF Level 5 Training Now Available

We’re pleased to announce that First Stop Safety Training is now offering the Award in Food Safety in Catering at SCQF Level 5 as part of our growing range of workplace training courses.

This nationally regulated qualification is designed for anyone involved in the preparation, handling, storage or serving of food and can be delivered directly at your workplace for groups of up to 16 learners.

Good food safety is about much more than washing hands and checking use-by dates.

Anyone handling food has an important role to play in preventing contamination, reducing the risk of foodborne illness and ensuring food is prepared and served safely.

Our new Food Safety in Catering at SCQF Level 5 course provides learners with a thorough understanding of the principles behind good food safety practices and how these should be applied in the workplace.

As a nationally regulated qualification, it is an excellent option for organisations looking for a more comprehensive food safety qualification for their staff.

Delivered over one day, the course covers a wide range of essential food safety topics, including:

  • Food safety legislation and responsibilities
  • Foodborne illness and food poisoning
  • Personal hygiene and effective handwashing
  • Cleaning and maintaining hygienic premises
  • Pest control
  • Food spoilage
  • Cross-contamination
  • Chemical, physical and allergenic contamination
  • Safe food handling and preparation
  • High-risk and low-risk foods
  • Temperature control
  • HACCP
  • Food storage and stock rotation
  • Labelling and traceability
  • Food poisoning and anaphylaxis

Learners complete a written assessment as part of the course.

Successful learners achieve the Award in Food Safety in Catering at SCQF Level 5, a nationally regulated qualification awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA).

Food safety is particularly important in early years environments, where staff may be involved in preparing and serving meals and snacks to young children every day.

The course provides staff with a greater understanding of areas such as cross-contamination, allergens, temperature control, personal hygiene and safe food storage.

For nurseries and childcare organisations already using First Stop Safety Training for first aid and other workplace training, the addition of Food Safety in Catering means another important area of staff development can now be arranged through us.

The qualification isn’t limited to traditional catering environments.

It is suitable for staff working within:

  • Nurseries and early years settings
  • Schools and education
  • Care services
  • Cafés and restaurants
  • Hospitality and catering
  • Community organisations
  • Workplace kitchens
  • Other environments where food is prepared, handled or served

Learners must be aged 14 years or over.

The course can be delivered face-to-face at your workplace, making it a convenient option for organisations that need to train several members of staff.

Courses can accommodate up to 16 learners, allowing an entire team to complete the qualification together without travelling to an external training venue.
